No More VIP Traffic Jams – Govt To Ban Red Beacon Lights On All VIP Cars From May 1st!

Remember the crazy traffic jams VVIPs caused when they visited your city? It will not happen anymore. In a very commendable move, the government has banned the use of red beacons on the top of VVIP vehicles.

And the whopper – even the Prime Minister and President come under the ban!

The decision to ban the VVIP car culture was a result of a meeting chaired by PM Modi. Under the ban, all Chief Ministers, Union and State Cabinet Ministers, Justices of High Courts and Supreme Courts, the Vice-President and bureaucrats can no longer use the red beacon on their cars.

The move comes after UP and Punjab CMs, Yogi Adityanath and Amarinder Singh decided to give up on the red beacons for their respective cars.

“From May 1 no one in the country would be able to have red beacons atop official vehicles. There will be no exceptions.”

The emergency services, however, will continue using the beacon, but the colour they will use is blue. Also, the Police, Army and fire services will be allowed the use of the blue beacon on their vehicles.

The move itself is not new, as the Supreme Court had already termed the use of red beacons as “ridiculous and synonymous with power”. Their use had decreased after this statement, but the VVIPs continued using them regardless.

Now that the Government itself has issued the notice, the VVIP culture will be toned down, at least on the roads.

Very commendable!
