Mumbai Is Going To Get A Second Marine Drive And It’s Going To Be Wait-For-It, 7 Kms Long!

Marine Drive is the ultimate place to chill in Mumbai. No wonder thousands of people go to just sit there to feel the ocean breeze on their face. And it’s free. What’s better than just napping on the wall or just go and eat the famous bhel at Chowpatty beach?

And if you are one of those people who just love Mumbai for the Marine Drive experience, there’s good news. There is going to be a second Marine Drive that is going to be TWICE the length of the original, on the eastern seafront!

The Mumbai Port Trust is going to revamp the entire eastern seaboard and one of the biggest changes is the addition of a Marine Drive between Mazagaon Docks and Wadala.

The length of this new Marine Drive will be 7 kilometers! That’s almost double the length of the existing Marine Drive. Mumbai port Trust will start inviting tenders in one year and the construction should be completed in the next 5-6 years. MbPT chairman Sanjay Bhatia said –

“You will have a completely new city on the eastern coast of the city.”

Furthermore, there are plans to connect Elephanta Caves with a ropeway from Haji Bunder. They will also connect Ferry Wharf to Navi Mumbai and Alibaug through water transport.

They also plan to bring all government offices under one roof in this developmental plan. Most of the government offices are scattered around the city. Now they will all be in one location in East Mumbai.

So you see, in 10 years Eastern side looks to become the ‘cooler’ part of Mumbai!
