Narayana Murthy Gifts Grandson Infosys Shares Worth ₹240 Cr, Desis Crack 70-Hr Work Week Jokes

Ekagrah, the son of Rohan Murty and the grandson of Infosys founder Narayana Murthy and Sudha Murty, was born on November 10 last year in Bengaluru. And just like any other grandfather who is ecstatic upon the arrival of a grandchild, Narayana Murthy too decided to bless the child with a valuable gift. But there’s a massive difference between him and other grandfathers – Narayana Murthy is a billionaire.

He gifted 4-month-old Ekagrah Rohan Murty 15 lakh shares of Infosys worth over Rs 240 crore, reported India Today. He transferred the shares, comprising 0.04 per cent of Infosys stake, to his grandson in an off-market transaction on Friday. His own stake in the company, thereby, reduced to 0.36 per cent.

Others in the family hold stakes in the company too. Akshata Murty holds 1.05 per cent while Sudha Murty holds 0.93 per cent. Rohan Murty, on the other hand, owns 1.64 per cent. Ekagrah Murty is now perhaps one of the youngest billionaires in India.

However, this news was met with hilarious reactions on social media because last year, Narayana Murthy urged the youngsters of India to work 70 hours a week to better the economy of our country. The fact that Ekagrah received too much too young has ignited a meme-fest online. Have a look:

If I were Ekagrah, I wouldn’t want to work a single hour for the rest of my life!
