Mumbaikar Loses Wallet In Local Train In 2006, Gets Returned 14 Years Later

If you thought getting a seat in a crowded Mumbai local is the most miraculous thing ever, then please think again. Why, you ask? Well, a man who lost his wallet in a Mumbai local train back in 2006, surprisingly found it back after 14 years!

According to a report by NDTV, Hemant Padalkar had lost his wallet while traveling in a Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus-Panvel local back train in 2006. In April, almost 14 years later, Hemant received an unexpected call from the Government Railway Police (GRP), Vashi. They informed the Panvel resident that they had found his lost property.

However, Hemant was not able to collect his belongings due to the coronavirus-induced lockdown, reports Times Now. After the easing of restrictions, he went to the GRP office where he was given part of the money that was in his wallet. He was quoted saying by HT,

“My wallet at that time contained Rs 900, including a Rs 500 note which was later demonetized (in 2016). The Vashi GRP returned Rs 300 to me. They deducted Rs 100 for stamp paperwork and said the remaining Rs 500 would be returned after exchanging the scrapped currency note with a new one.”

He added that many people who had come to the GRP office to collect their stolen money. The amount reportedly ran into several thousand in demonetized currency. Hemant was ecstatic to receive his money back. According to a GRP official, the person who stole the wallet has been arrested.
