Recently, a video of a police officer celebrating the birthday of a criminal and feeding him cake while wearing his uniform went viral. The police officer was identified as Mahendra Nerlekar, a senior inspector posted in the Jogeshwari police station. The criminal was Danish Sheikh, who was booked for rioting and an attempt to murder case, reports The Indian Express.
Although the incident took place 2 weeks back, the video went viral recently. The incident allegedly took place at a housing society in Jogeshwari (West), Mumbai, where Danish was celebrating his birthday with local residents.
In response to the video, Nerlekar claimed that he visited the housing society to check on some demolition work that was going on, that he was invited to the society office, and was unaware that Danish was present celebrating his birthday, reports TOI.
As soon as the video reached senior officers of Mumbai Police, Nerlekar was transferred to the police control room, reports IE.

Several people online condemned the incident. Here’s what they said:
This is now going even lower than any 90’s C-grade Bollywood movie. It’s 2021 & murderers, druggies, vasooli agents, & all roam freely on the streets of Mumbai.
Everyone is exposed, but still they continue their shameless dance without any fear.
Murders-Vasooli-Aatmahatya.
