Narendra Modi is close to clocking 15 months at the wheel. When Modi came into power on May 21, 2014 by winning Lok Sabha elections with a massive margin, he delivered a message and that too a strong one.
‘We are not here for any positions but for a responsibility.’
Be it Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, travelling to different countries, strengthening foreign policy or launching welfare schemes for the low-income group, he has been working hard to fulfil people’s expectations.
Here are 10 of his memorable firsts, which no other Indian Prime Minister has done in the past.
1. China noticed. The US wondered. Russia watched.
For the first time leaders of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal attended the swearing-in ceremony of an Indian Prime Minister.
2. With Obama looking on, India showed its military might on Republic Day.
India displayed its defence prowess and its diverse culture during the Republic Day parade in front of the US President.
3. Mann Ki Baat – A wonderful way to connect with masses
A new channel of communication adopted by him to speak out his mind on diverse subjects of national importance. Not only it revives the radio culture but also makes it easier to solve the present-day problems.
4. He sets own protocol. Received a foreign dignitary in Ahmedabad and not Delhi.
Smart move. Signed 3 MoUs for cultural exchanges between Chinese cities and Gujarat cities for cultural exchange.
5. Voted among Time’s 100 most influential people
Unlike many of his predecessors, he has been leading from the front to shape the future of his country.
6. Not too many international leaders can pack Madison Square Garden for a public speech
18,000 plus audience erupted in joy and pride in a place which have witnessed many great sporting battles and entertainment shows, but nothing like this.
7. Wore a dark suit with unique monogram pinstripes worth more than 1m rupees when he met Obama
It was auctioned off for 43 million rupees and the money raised was used to clean up the heavily polluted Ganges river.
8. International Yoga Day – A move initiated by Narendra Modi and later endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly
“A big dream starts with a small exercise of yoga.”
And now..
I am very thankful to the UAE Govt for their decision to allot land in order to build a Temple in Abu Dhabi. This is a great step.
