Mumbai Man Assaults Wife For Wearing Jeans, Later Surrenders To Cops Assuming She’s Dead

We’ve been listening to things like Indian women should not wear tops, t-shirts, jeans, short dresses, skirts etc. and should instead stick to their traditional clothing say sari or salwar suits for ages.

In fact, with victim-blaming rampant in the country, the way a woman dresses up is often suggested as the reason why they were subjected to sexual abuse. While such instances make our skin crawl, we assume there’s not much to do other than hope that ‘society’s mentality’ shall change.

A recent incident that has come to light in Mumbai is an example of such a sick mentality. 32-year-old Sudhir Jadhav confronted his wife Sujata after she returned home from work in a mall wearing jeans and a t-shirt, reports TOI.

The man who works as a housekeeper in a private company apparently did not like his wife wearing western outfits to work. The couple broke into a serious argument over the same and Jadhav ended up assaulting the woman who fainted.

Assuming that he had killed his wife, Jadhav reached a nearby police station in Dombivali and surrendered himself. On the other hand, Sujata was rushed to a Sion Hospital where she is being treated for serious injuries.

It’s high time our society learns that women have rights and must feel free to wear exactly what they like. Our women need to feel safe, to begin with, atleast in their own home!
