Malaika Arora Opens Up About Divorce With Arbaaz Khan And Dating Again

Let’s start by agreeing upon the fact that divorce is a hushed word in our country. We are a country where marriages are forced to work out, more by families and outsiders than the two in question. And God forbid if a woman is ever out of a marriage – she will be socially scarred!

Malaika Arora’s divorce with Arbaaz Khan definitely came as a blow, more so her alleged relationship with Arjun Kapoor. There has been a lot of speculations and shaming, but the Bollywood diva has remained unapologetic in her life choices!

For the first time, Malaika opened up about her divorce in Kareena Kapoor’s radio talk show ‘What Women Want’.

“The first thing that everybody said to me was of course ‘don’t do it’, but again there has been nobody to say ‘please go ahead’. A lot of people asked me to think about it even before the night I got divorced.”

She went on to address other women who are perhaps going through the same situation.

“If you are in that process, if you are in an unhappy marriage and that’s what you decide to then you should do it with a lot of dignity and with a lot of self respect. Don’t let anybody bring you down or tell you that you are any less of a woman.”

Malaika strongly feels that there is a difference in the way people treat women and men who are divorced and she claims that is the “biggest disparity” there is.

It is a tough job to make such a huge decision, but ultimately one’s own happiness matters more than anything else.

“It’s never ever easy. But for the kind of person that I am, I really think that happiness is very important, and not just for myself but for everybody. And I didn’t make the decision alone. We are two people involved. We weighed every single pros and cons, and then we decided to move our separate ways because we’d just be better people.”

After a divorce, many people may find it difficult to jump back into the dating scene again. It was no different for Malaika as well. She admits that she was a little “intimidated”.

“You need a little time to back away from everything, get a perspective for what’s in store, and then go out there and date again. Swipe any left, right, whatever it may be! Have fun and enjoy it!”

There is a sense of freedom, a breath of fresh air which comes along at the end of it which everyone is deserving of after a rough patch.

Kudos to Malaika for opening up about a taboo topic and breaking stereotypes like a boss!
