A few days ago, news of record-breaking rainfall leading to massive floods in Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and China made headlines. Visuals of floodwater ravaging villages and cities, destroying vehicles and properties went viral.
And now, news of heavy rainfall, landslides and floods causing destruction in parts of Maharashtra have gone viral. According to News18, 47 people lost their lives and another 30 are allegedly trapped after 3 landslides in Raigad district. Another landslide has been reported in Satara, where 12 people are allegedly stuck.
Further, 3 people succumbed to injuries and 7 were left injured after a house collapsed in Mumbai’s Govandi area. According to Hindustan Times, floodwater from the Vasisthi river and the discharge of water from the Koyana dam has submerged several areas. Ratnagiri and Raigad districts have been affected the most. Many other drives have been overflown, thereby causing havoc in several areas in coastal Konkan. Relief teams have been deployed in the affected areas. This is the heaviest spell of rain in the state in July in 40 years, reports NDTV.
Visuals of extreme floods, toppled cars, flooded buildings, and trapped people have gone viral. Have a look:
