Lucknow Man Receives Rose From Traffic Police For Wearing Helmet, Suspicious Wife Raises Hell

Traffic police in India have been coming up with innovative methods to get people to follow traffic rules and raise awareness about the same. In fact, the Bengaluru traffic police went as far as to bring Lord Yamraj onto the roads to educate bikers on the importance of wearing helmets. And of course, the cool as cucumber social media team of Mumbai Police spares no celebrity and leaves no pun unintended with their strong meme games.

But when the Lucknow Traffic Police pulled a similar cute stunt, a man ended up having to relive a live-action performance of the Mahabharat at home, courtesy of his wife.

Last week, the Lucknow traffic police arranged a road safety awareness programme as a part of which they distributed roses to those wearing helmets as a gesture of thanks.

They also gave out free helmets to pillion riders without one.

Sub Inspector Prem Shahi spoke about the event in a Facebook post, along with pictures taken that day:

रोड साइन,रोड मार्किंग, सिग्नल,गोल चक्कर,जेब्रा लाइन,स्टॉप लाइन….इत्यादि का कुछ मतलब होता है,कुछ उद्देश्य होता…

A cool initiative right? Rather than chasing people around or throwing shoes at them (like a certain Bengaluru policeman was caught on camera doing), Lucknow Police took the high road and approached the matter with love.

However, for one man, the rose he received for being a law-abiding citizen set off suspicious bells in his wife’s head.

The next day of the campaign, Prem Shahi took to Facebook again to talk about the event but this time, with a hilarious twist.

He wrote:

“This gentleman met us today and began asking about photographs from yesterday‘s helmet awareness campaign. He was very upset about the photo. After searching a lot, we found the photograph of him receiving the rose.

When we enquired about the reason he said “When I was going through the Sikandar Bagh intersection yesterday, Inspector sir, you gave me a rose for wearing a helmet. When I reached home with the rose, my wife started questioning me about the rose. I repeatedly told her that the traffic police were giving out roses to those wearing helmets, but she refused to believe that the police would give out flowers, and we were fighting the entire night. My entire night was black.”

Along with the photograph from yesterday, we gave him a rose again today and took a photo again. Hopefully, his night won’t be black tonight.”

This is the post recounting the hilarious encounter:

यह सज्जन आज मिले और कल के हेलमेट जागरूकता अभियान की फोटो मागने लगे।फोटो को लेकर बहुत परेशान थे । बहुत ढूढने पर फोटो मिल…

The whole incident left the internet in splits. Who’d have thought that a simple gesture by the Lucknow police would end up causing such trouble?!

As the news spread, UP Police PRO Rahul Srivastav came forward with some advice for the Lucknow traffic police. Maybe try cauliflower next time, he says:

Not a bad idea, you know. Police bhi khush, biwi bhi.
