Lucknow Man Built A Drone With Robotic Arm To Rescue Puppy Trapped In Filthy Drain

Raise your hand if you think puppies are God’s cutest creations. Those big eyes and tiny paws can make any stone-hearted person melt like a kulfi on a Mumbai summer afternoon. Even the thought of something happening to these little angels on earth, makes my heart weep.

Which is why I’m grateful to Milind Raj and his love for robotics and AI.

Lucknow based Milind Raj, was out on a stroll when he heard the cries of some animal somewhere nearby.

Upon inspection, he realised that a small puppy had fallen into a filthy drain in the middle of the road. Apparently, the pupper had been trapped in the drain for the last couple of days.

Wanting to help, Milind who is an innovator and builds robots for a living, put together an AI-controlled robotic arm to a giant drone to get the puppy out.

Talking to NDTV, Raj said:

“The drain was so filthy, it was like a bog. It was not possible for a human to rescue the puppy without endangering their own life, so I decided to put technology to the task. I decided to use the AI-controlled robotic arm because it has a smart heartbeat sensor. Attached to the drone, I knew it would be risky but may work.”

And so he got back to the drain and put his creation to work keeping a close eye on the drone.

He says:

“The AI helped me monitor the animal’s heart rate. If the grip was too tight, the pup would suffocate.”

Once safely on the ground, Milind says the puppy vomited a couple of times probably due to ingesting some of the drain water. Milind says:

“It vomited plastic including paan masala packets that people had carelessly tossed into the drain.”

As stressful as the experience may have been for the pupperino, all’s well that ends well. Milind has adopted the trouper and named him Lifted!
