Lionel Messi Surprises Reporter With His Heartwarming Gesture After Argentina’s Win

Argentinian supporters all around the world were in for a nail-biting 90 minutes on Tuesday as the men in blue and white stepped into a do or die encounter against the gutsy Nigerians. Much to the joy of the fans, skipper Lionel Messi carried his country over the line in a 2-1 victory at Saint Petersburg.

But yeah, the group stages have been a choke hole for Messi, who probably went through the most painful phase in his career. A draw against Iceland followed by a humiliating defeat against the Croatians had pushed the Albiceleste to the brink of elimination. However, the pure genius of the G.O.A.T, immense faith in God and a million prayers from the fans saw the little man and his team step enter the knockouts, one more time.

Keeping the football aside, there is one more incident involving Messi that has grabbed a fair amount of attention.

After a disappointing start to the tournament, a reporter told Messi that his mother has sent a ribbon for the left-footed talisman, as a piece of luck, and he would give it to him if Messi wants to take it.

Come 26th June, after Argentina successfully crossed the Nigerian hurdle, the reporter came back to Messi and asked him if he remembers taking the ribbon from him. Guess what? Messi, who turned 31 earlier this month. pulled down his sock to show him the ribbon that was tied to his iconic left foot. Wow!

With a broad smile on his face, the Argentine told the reporter that he not only remembers taking it also wearing it on his left foot. Quite expectedly, the reporter was blown away by the gesture and could not believe that Messi actually wore it!

Now, this surely has my heart. To be honest, Messi does not need a ribbon to decide his fate. The extremely humble nature of the Argentina skipper made him wear the token of luck and it was nothing but an incredible act of humanity and kindness. We wish him all the best for the rest of the World Cup.
