2 Decades After Army Officer Sacrifices Life In Kashmir, His Daughter Joins Indian Army

Hailing from Chandigarh, Major Navneet Vats was commissioned into the Fourth Battalion of 3 Gorkha Rifles Regiment. In November 2003, he lost his life in action in a counter-insurgency operation in Srinagar. According to NDTV, he was given the gallantry award “Sena Medal” for his bravery and ultimate sacrifice.

Two decades later, his daughter Inayat Vats joined the Indian Army after passing out from the Officers Training Academy, in Chennai. She has been commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Military Intelligence Corps. She was only three years old when she lost her father but today she wears the same olive-green uniform that he once donned.

Inayat Vats is a graduate from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University. Later, she pursued a Master’s degree from Delhi University in Political Science after which she joined the Officers Training Academy in April 2023.

According to SSBcrack, Inayat’s commissioning into the Indian Army has been warmly received, with many hailing her as “Army Daughter” who is carrying her father’s legacy forward.

From losing her father at a young age to serving the nation just like him, Inayat’s life has come to a full circle. 🙂
