Public display of affection, be it with your partner, is a huge taboo in Indian society. People get so annoyed watching you express your affection to your lover that they even come down to shame you.
And since we are not yet ‘modern’ enough, Indian couples kissing at their own wedding is still frowned upon by many.
The tradition that is often associated with foreign culture is being practiced in the country in recent times. But some opinionated and ‘old school’ people think ‘lip-locking’ in Indian weddings looks ‘cringe’.
Taking to Twitter, a woman shared that we should stop copying western culture.
Call me old fashioned but lip lock pictures in Indian weddings look cringe. Stop copying west please.

Well, her opinions can’t stop people from doing what they love. In the same way, other people’s actions won’t stop her from saying what she feels. After all, it’s a free world. Let’s see how people online reacted to her strong opinions.
She was reminded that kissing actually existed in India way before the west adopted it.
Kissing actually existed in India way before the west…… Today the west openly celebrate it while Indians have become very conservative. pic.twitter.com/oZT3PXEEYY

Pls follow Seema Anand you need to learn much about our ancient Vedas and PDA. There is nothing wrong in it plus it’s totally a personal choice so ur opinion hardly matters to a couple locking their lips for pics.

We as a country gave "Kama Sutra" and calling lip lock western, very funny 🤣🤣 https://t.co/DqzVxq2aEH
— Solomon (@King22Solomon) October 21, 2022
You think the land of the Kama Sutra didn't once consider trying out sloppy face eating? A dirty face punch ? A saliva slurp? A violent tongue fight? A cosmic gargle blaster to the mouth? A salivary gland handout? A kiss?? https://t.co/4jGnOqHo5m

Some thought her tweet was cringe-pro-max and disagreed with her.
Tera tweet hi CRINGE x 100 h 🤣🤣

Honestly this is the cringiest thing i read today. You need to grow up. Everything is not perpetuated by West. Or else stop doing everything that’s labelled western. Wearing western clothes, western food 🙄

🤣🤣 Bc har doosre ghar me 6-7 bacche paida kie hai just pichli gen me. Seedhe to aise bante hai jaise ladki ko dekhte b ni hai.
Bacho k samne biwi ko chata marna thik lagta tha par yaha new gen wale thoda peck kar le to sant banke gyan cho*ne lag jate hai.— AbhayJ (@ItsAvjHere) October 21, 2022
What’s the big deal for us as a society to accept two people showing affection? Not everything is about copying west. They’re okay with it. You should be too. Noone asked you to do it. Why can’t people just leave two people alone. 😂
— Jahnavi (@Jahnavi09) October 21, 2022
Imagine being so old fashioned that you call a kiss of love a liplock
— AmmuNition (@dorm_ammu) October 21, 2022
And parents expecting grandkids within the first year of marriage through heavy coupling isn’t cringeworthy? Or arranging flowers on the bed with the intention to give the newly weds a good first night experience!!
— Queenbee (@howzzYa) October 21, 2022
In today’s news, kissing is western idea now. Pata nahi kaise our population continues to grow. https://t.co/B10y9QPt6N
— Jatin Chugh (@chugh_it) October 21, 2022
Yeah white people invented kissing. Brown people just kiss ass to get ahead in life instead. https://t.co/9FmIcgDZTp
— Sujay (@WeirdlyHungry) October 21, 2022
I would totally expect such a shitty opinion from someone who refers to kissing as “lip lock” https://t.co/jJtCx6IePL
— Sultan of Mood Swings (@Guiltfoyle) October 22, 2022
Is it that hard to mind your own business and let people live? https://t.co/h98twit3X0

However, support also poured in for her.
It is not just cringe but chutiyapa also.
— Caped Baldy (@Durgesh203) October 21, 2022
Seriously…..it’s pure cringe to see young couples kissing in front of all the elders of the family….
Witnessed one…. My stomach turned upside down, with all my brothers and all standing there 😅😅😅
Guess I am too old fashioned 😅😅😅

PDA is a disorder which many couples suffer to get validation of their relationship in a public social space and in long-run affects their relationship
— Eminent Woke (@WokePandemic) October 21, 2022
True..
— Ravi Thakur (@Ravithakur1729) October 22, 2022
After all, it’s a matter of choice.
But isn’t it their choice? If they like something from western culture and adopt it, it has to be individual choice.
There are many aspects of our traditional wedding which many of us might find cringe.
— Shukla G (@Shuks80) October 21, 2022
Pretty sure she didn’t barge in their wedding and put a hand in between their lips and stopped them.
She gave her opinion on the act. If hers doesn’t matter, neither does urs, so why did you take the time to type all of this?— kleen (@left_ya_right) October 22, 2022
Just don't lip lock in your wedding, and don't show up to weddings you don't like.
You don't get to tell people what they can and cannot do lmao https://t.co/kuMDcJSjgu
— bruv (@championrat02) October 21, 2022
After her opinion was met with criticism, she maintained her stand and tweeted:
Those defending the act, bhai tum stage pe semx kar lo mujhe kya 🤷🏻♀️
I’d still call it cringe though 😌— S (@MissSingh04) October 21, 2022
You don’t like people kissing? Don’t watch? You don’t like someone’s opinions? Don’t react. To each his own! Do as you please.
