A lot has already been said and written about the high-profile Chandigarh stalking case that started with Vikas Barala, son of Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala, stalking and chasing 29-year-old Varnika Kundu in the late hours of a fateful night.

But while the law was taking its course, politicos did what they do best and started shaming the victim!

If you need a quick recap; Chandigarh BJP vice-president, Ramveer Bhatti, had earlier went for Varnika’s character assassination, questioning why was she out so late that night! That wasn’t it, even BJP Spokesperson Shaina NC and Union Minister Babul Supriyo jumped the gun in spreading fake info and reducing the crime to a ‘mischief’ respectively.

But amidst all the victim shamers, there is one Kirron Kher. The actress and MP from Chandigarh recently addressed the issue as it is and condemned the blame game, reported NDTV.

“Why is there danger at night and not during the day? They should tell boys not to go out at night.”

In fact, according to Indian Express, Bhatti’s reported statement about women safety and the timings of the clock did not go down well with Kher. She said,

“I think this is a very unfortunate statement, which reflects the mindset of many men in this country.

I think that Bhatti should have exercised restraint and not made this comment.”

Besides party-politics, the actor-politician also maintained that the Chandigarh police was not facing any political pressure and allegations like the one about CCTV footage going missing, are rather fabricated.

“The police are under no political pressure, this is absolutely baseless. The Chandigarh police are doing their job as any professional force does.”

She also insisted that if something comes up during the investigation, every legal remedy will be used to ensure that justice is facilitated.
