It was a floral affair at this year’s Met Gala! Some of our favourite A-listers hit the red carpet wearing stunning custom-made outfits from designer brands and turned heads as they showed off some of the best creations to have come out of the world of fashion. The name of the exhibit for Met Gala 2024 was ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’ and the dress code was ‘Garden of Time’.
‘The Garden of Time’ is a short story by J.G Ballard that explores the passage of time and the inevitability of mortality. In the story, a man discovers a mysterious garden where each flower represents a moment in time. He becomes obsessed with the idea of preserving moments and tries to pluck a flower to stop time, only to find that the flower wilts and dies in his hand. Through this poignant allegory, Ballard conveys the futility of trying to control time and the importance of embracing the fleeting nature of life.
