Haryana’s Infamous Khap Makes A Good Decision. Says No To 3rd Child After 2 Daughters.

The Khap Panchayat of Haryana, that is infamous for it’s absurd decisions has finally issued a ruling out that is actually beneficial for the society and makes sense.

The Khap Panchayat has issued orders for people not to have a 3rd child after and if the first 2 are daughters.

This will help in the reduction of female foeticide for which Haryana is infamous for. According to a census in 2012, the male is to female ratio in Haryana is a very low 1000:883, and with this new rule, despite being small, might help improve the situation in a small way.

The Khap Panchayat also ruled out that a dowry of only Re.1/- should be taken by the groom’s family, from the bride’s side.

This also came as a welcome change, as the malpractice of dowry, and dowry-related offenses and crimes have been on the rise since forever in Haryana.

The surprising part of the entire ruling out is that it comes from a Khap Panchayat, which have previously been infamous for issuing orthodox and absurd decisions. Khap Panchayats in Haryana have earlier been known to blame noodles for the increase in rapes, and declaring women who wear jeans and use mobiles as lacking character.

They have decided to felicitate couples who do not go for a third child after 2 daughters.

The Panchayat has also issued the decree for the numbering of people participating in the bridegroom’s procession to not exceed 21.

Bura Khap’s head Rajbir Bura said, “The decision was much needed as too many people constituting a ‘baraat’ puts unnecessary financial burden on the bride’s family”.

In addition to the above, the decision to reduce the mourning period of a family when one of it’s members died was also reduced from 13 to 7 days.

Rajbir Bura added, “It was also decided to end the old practice of not having wheat flour, pulses and ghee (clarified butter) during the mourning period.”

Good move on their part, isn’t it?
