Kerala: 106-YO & 98-YO Grandmas Learn Use Of Laptop For Online Class To Take Class-7 Exams

Last year, 106-year-old Bhageerathi Amma from Kerala won our hearts after she went back to school at such an old age to complete her education and sit for class-4 examinations. She taught us a very important lesson – there is no age for learning. Kerala’s 98-year-old Karthyayani Amma proved the same when she topped the Kerala State Literacy Mission’s examination by scoring 98 out of 100.

One could wonder what happened to these awesome grannies education after the lockdown. Guess what, both Bhageerathi Amma and Karthyayani Amma are now learning how to go “digital”!

According to a report by The New Indian Express, both grannies have taken up online classes. They are now learning through computer screens instead of blackboards. Both are trying to get used to the “new normal” – learning via laptops and smartphones.

On one hand, Bhageerathi Amma finds it difficult to focus during online classes as her grandchildren keep playing inside the house. But she still tries to remain attentive during classes behind closed doors in the morning and in the evenings.

Karthyayani Amma, on the other hand, spends most of her time in front of the laptop screen reading her study material and watching videos.

TNIE reports that both grannies are currently pursuing an 8-month-long ‘Class-7 equivalency course’. After clearing this course, they will be eligible for the ‘Class-10 equivalency course’.
