Labourer Scores 100% Marks In Kerala Literacy Exam, Beats 96 Year-Old Karthyayani Amma

Age cannot be a barrier to learning. And if there is someone who has proved the statement right, it’s definitely Kerala’s Karthyayani Amma. The 96-year-old Alappuzha resident set an inspirational example back in October, when she topped the Kerala State Literacy Mission’s examination, with a whopping 98 marks out of 100.

While Amma’s achievement was nothing short of genius, a labourer from Odisha, has now pipped her score to grab full marks in a Kerala Literacy Exam.

Mudad Revathi, a migrant labourer who works at a garment-making unit at the IT hub Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram, has managed to score 100 percent marks in the special examination, conducted by the state-run Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority.

However, the activity-oriented exam which analyzes a candidate’s reading, writing and arithmetic skills, was no cakewalk for Revathi. In order to master the Malayalam language in a short period of time, the determined worker took part in the ‘Changathi’ programme carried by the Kerala State Literacy Mission.

The program intends to teach the language of Malayalam and impart other basic education to migrant laborers with a dream.

According to The Indian Express, Revathi said,

“I tried to spend at least two hours to learn Malayalam every night after my work.”

However, it was not only Revathi who hit the full monty, but Viki Kumar, a worker from Bihar, also scored 100 percent marks in the same exam. 90-year-old fisherfolk, Mythili, a native fisherfolk in Kozhikode, has also grabbed full marks as part of ‘Aksharasagaram’ another flagship initiative of the Mission to educate fisherfolks in Kerala.

We take out time to congratulate each and every one these warriors for their phenomenal achievements. They make us realize that age is never a deterrent if there’s zeal for knowledge.
