If you were to get married, what would you do in the days after? Most would probably plan their honeymoon, some would go back to work, and a few others would be busy shifting cities or countries. However, one couple from Karnataka did something unexpected.
According to News18, Anudeep Hegde and Minusha Kanchan got married recently and were staying in the former’s hometown Baindur. One day, while planning their honeymoon, they decided to visit a nearby beach which was just 3 km away from their house named Someshwara beach.
During a discussion on whether they should go to Lakshwadeep or Himachal Pradesh for their honeymoon, they realised how littered the beach was. They spotted alcohol bottles, medicine bottles, chappals, plastic, etc. everywhere.
It was then when Anudeep suggested that they should do a beach cleanup and Minusha readily agreed.
According to International Business Times, the couple then went on to grab two pairs of gloves and large garbage bags and started cleaning the beach. Neither did anybody know about their initiative nor did they post any pictures online.
From November 27 to December 5, the couple cleared 600 kgs of waste from the beach.
Soon, word got out and 15-16 other young people joined them. But nearly 80% of the beach was cleared by then! The garbage bags were later collected by the local panchayat officials.
Anudeep finally went on Twitter to post a video of the beach.
Can two person make a difference? Got married two weeks back & with my wife have decided to clean up this beach before we celebrate honeymoon. 40% have been cleared . Few more days to go. A much satisfying experience so far. #saveourfuture@thebetterindia @timesofindia pic.twitter.com/lo1ZJS3Oin
