Indians are still recuperating from the demonetisation effect. There’s cash-crunch and unending queues outside the ATMs and banks. In one such queue, a lady in Kanpur Dehat district of Uttar Pradesh delivered a baby-girl in the bank after standing the line for over two days.
Sarvesha, 30, was waiting in the bank-queue at Punjab National Bank’s Jhinjhak branch with her mother-in-law, second day in a row. She went into labour around 4 pm on Friday after standing since morning and delivered a healthy baby inside the bank as the ambulance couldn’t reach on time.
Sarvesha and her baby-girl were taken to a nearby hospital in Police van. She waited the whole day in the queue outside the bank on Thursday, and on Friday till the time she went into labour.
Her mother-in-law, Shashi, was afraid that she might’ve lost her but was glad when she became a grandmother.
“She is weak but the baby is healthy. I was afraid that I may lose Sarvesha but she delivered a beautiful baby and is recuperating”.
Sarvesha was at the bank to collect the first installment out of the Rs 2.75 lakh compensation allotted to her, along with a house, by the government after her husband’s accidental death in September.
While it’s great news for the mother and her family, they’re not too happy about the circumstances they were put through. #Demonetisation
