Kangana Ranaut Defends Calling Urmila Matondkar A ‘Soft Porn Star’ & Makes It Worse

“Urmila is a soft porn star. She is not known for her acting for sure, what is she known for? For doing soft porns right?”

This is what Kangana Ranaut had said about Urmila Matondkar back in 2020 in an interview. Just for a bit of context, Kangana had called the film industry a gutter, veteran actor Jaya Bachchan slammed her for her statement, and Kangana in return lashed out at her. Urmila Matondkar, on the other hand, called Kangana out for disrespecting such a senior actor. Then Kangana went on to make the ‘soft porn’ statement about Matondkar.

Recently, Kangana Ranaut was slut-shamed by Congress’s social media in-charge Supriya Shrinate in an Instagram post which has now been deleted. This came after Ranaut was announced as a contesting Lok Sabha candidate for Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi. In response to Suprita Shrinate’s post, Ranaut advocated for every woman’s right to dignity. However, people were quick to remind her of the time when she disrespected not just Urmila Matondkar but also Deepika Padukone, Taapsee Pannu, Swara Bhasker and many more female actors from the industry.

During an interaction at the Times Now Summit 2024 which took place on Wednesday, Kangana Ranaut was yet again asked about her remarks on Urmila Matondkar. Instead of apologizing for her statement, Kangana justified it and it made matters worse.

“I am not justifying anything. If these actresses are comfortable with words such as tandoori murgi, item girl, Sheila ki Jawani, why is it seen as something violating? It is a matter of fact, if they are comfortable with this, why do you want to shame them? I personally do not think I had any intention of shaming her because she is very comfortable in that role.”

She went on to drag Sunny Leone and claimed that nowhere in the world do porn stars get as much respect as they get in India.

“Tell me, are ‘soft porn’ or ‘porn star’ objectionable terms? No! They are not objectionable terms. It is just a word that is not acceptable socially. The amount of respect porn stars get in India – just ask Sunny Leone – nowhere else in the world is that the case.”

What are your views regarding her statement?
