“There’s No Age For Learning” Jharkhand’s 53-YO Education Minister Takes Admission In Class 11

“Constant criticism inspired me to re-start my pending education,” says Jharkhand education minister Jagarnath Mahto who recently enrolled in Class 11 at a government-affiliated inter-college under his Assembly constituency of Dumri. The 53-year-old, who is re-starting his education almost after 25 years, passed his class-10 examinations back in 1995, reports HT.

Ever since Mahto was elected as the human resource development (HRD) minister, he has reportedly faced criticism, not only from the common people but also from a section of elected members. He was quoted saying,

“Constant criticism inspired me to re-start my pending education. Ever since I was made education minister of Jharkhand, a section of people has been aggressive on my educational qualification. Then, I decided to begin my studies again.”

He added, “I will now carry on my education along with the education department.” The legislator, who will pursue the arts stream, said that his subjects will include political science for sure. He was quoted saying by TOI,

“When I was being sworn in as education minister, some people asked what a 10th pass minister would do. This is my reply to those people.”

Speaking about how he will strike a balance between the ministry and regular classes, he said, “I will complete my education, attend classes while I do agricultural work and serve the people. There is no age for education and learning. I will inspire people to do everything.”
