Remember typing away in all seriousness, sending someone a piece of your mind and realising later that auto-correct worked its wonders? Yeah, I know the feeling. But, while you and I suffered in silence, at the humiliation, Javed Akhtar bore the brunt of the bashing brigade because of a blue tick.
That’s right. Javed Akhtar recently fell victim to the madness that is auto-correct and ended goofing up an obituary, a tribute tweet he posted at the unfortunate demise of the legendary vocalist, Girija Devi.
He took to Twitter and wrote,

If you haven’t noticed already, he misspelt singer as ‘sinner’, treasure as ‘treasurer’ and without as ‘with out’.
And it was enough to trigger the wrath of the netizens who were quick to voice their anger.
1. It began with…
Kya mix Kiya jaddu tune ? 😹

2. Remember when Javed Akhtar called the Phogat sisters ‘hardly literate’?

3. Some pointed out the mistakes…
जब दारू पीते है बहुत गलतियां करते है मौलाना साहब siner nhi Singer

4. Many dragged Farhan because of his comment against the BJP leader.

5. As dismaying as it is…

But Javed Akhtar didn’t bow down. He called a troll out for his distasteful words…
your message is in extreme poor taste . She was a great singer beside that I knew her personally . Be a little sensitive
— Javed Akhtar (@Javedakhtarjadu) October 24, 2017
Not just that. Even apologised, explaining how his words were autocorrected…
My profuse apologies. While expressing my grief at the demise of the great Girija Devi autocorrect misspelled the word SINGER .Pls ignore it
— Javed Akhtar (@Javedakhtarjadu) October 24, 2017
In fact, he even posted a fresh tribute to make amends…
Girija Devi was not only a great classical singer but a national treasure too . We are poorer without her . Girija ji , AAP Ko mera salaam .
— Javed Akhtar (@Javedakhtarjadu) October 24, 2017
But the worst part is people are not ready to forgive his mistakes!
1. This is just plain sad.
Daru ke Bottle mein @FarOutAkhtar paani bharta hain…varna daru peekay @Javedakhtarjadu kaise zinda hain…🤣🤣

2. Know what I mean?
daaru utar gayi

3. Are we really this petty?

4. Forget that. I can’t even…

There is no better way to say this, but scrutiny, criticism and cynism are not new for celebrities but nobody deserves this kind of vile. Especially when one has apologised and even more when one is mourning the death of a loved one. Have we really stooped to such lows?
