Meet Iris, An AI-Generated Robot Teacher That’s Now Teaching Students At A Kerala School

There was a time when we used to think that robots would take over the world and teachers, scientists, doctors and world leaders would be replaced by robots. It seems like the time is here, the only difference is that the so-called ‘takeover’ hasn’t happened yet. Robots are helping humans for a seemingly better future.

Transforming the classroom experience for students, a school in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, named KTCT Higher Secondary School got its first artificial intelligence-generated robot teacher. The humanoid is called Iris and she has been built by Makerlabs Edutech Private Limited, reported Indian Express.

Iris can speak three languages – English, Malayalam and Hindi – and can answer difficult questions, along with features including voice assistant, interactive learning, manipulation capabilities, and mobilities.

“By adapting to each student’s needs and preferences, IRIS empowers educators to deliver engaging and effective lessons like never before,” remarked Markerlabs.

Iris can handle students from Nursery to Class 12 and can mimic human gestures, like shaking hands and moving around the classroom. This has massively grabbed the attention of students who are now making it a point to not miss the humanoid’s classes. So attendance has gone up.

There are plans to expand Iris’ linguistic abilities to 20 languages. The AI-generative robot has a massive knowledge base but can also filter out certain topics such as drugs and violence.
