Nawazuddin Siddiqui-Starrer McMafia Wins International Emmy, Twitter Lauds The Versatile Actor

When the nominations for the International Emmy Awards 2019 were announced, we had many reasons to celebrate.

According to Hindustan Times, Sacred Games (Best Drama Series), Lust Stories (Best TV Movie/Mini-Series) and Radhika Apte (Best Actress) featured on the list along with Nawazuddin Siddiqui-starrer McMafia (Best Drama Series), The Remix (Best Non-Scripted Entertainment) and Witness: India’s Forbidden Love (Best Documentary).

And at the end of the night, Nawazuddin Siddiqui came home with the coveted trophy for his work in McMafia. NDTV reports that the actor played the part of ‘Dilly Mahmood’ (an Indian businessman) in the show which won in the Best Drama category at the 47th International Emmy Awards.

The proud winner celebrated the honour on social media with this post.

In an earlier interview, Nawazuddin Siddiqui revealed how he came to be a part of the show and his immense respect for director James Watkins by saying,

“James Watkins has been following me since Gangs of Wasseypur and it is my performance in this movie, along with Miss Lovely and The Lunchbox, that eventually helped me bag my role in McMafia. Watkins is an experienced and passionate director and has also directed a few episodes of Black Mirror. He is somebody who keeps a keen eye for detail and beautifully brings out the smallest element in each shot. On McMafia, the overall experience was great, not just working with the director but all the other actors who were a part of the show.”

After his win, desi fans couldn’t help but say, “Chand pe hai apun”.

We would’ve have loved for all the Indian nominees to win but actress Kubbra Sait summed it up perfectly when she wrote, “This in itself is UNREAL”.

Congratulations to the winners as well as the nominees, we hope that we see many more next year!
