In our society, there is this subtle shift in societal expectations that has occurred. Many men are now expressing the desire to marry working women who can equally contribute financially to the household. On the other hand, there are still men who are traditionalists at heart and want a housewife who can hold down the fort when the men of the house are at work.
Somebody on Reddit’s r/AskIndia subreddit asked Indian men if they want a working wife or a housewife and if they would be okay with their wife being more educated than them.

There were varying reactions to this question too. On the one hand, many pointed out how in today’s economic landscape, it is important for both spouses to be earning to ensure the financial stability of the household. It also fosters a sense of shared responsibility and partnership between both spouses in times of uncertainty.

On the other hand, there were men who wanted their wives to be homemakers so as to have a clear division of labour – allowing the husband to focus on his career while the wife managed the household. They would rather adhere to traditional family structures, if their finances allow it that is.
