Indian Man Sexually Harasses Female Passenger On A Flight, Faces Life Imprisonment In USA

The moment you heave a sigh of relief that rapes, sexual assault, molestation and violence against women might be on the decline, another incident shows its ugly face.

According to the Indian Express, 34-YO Indian national, Prabhu Ramamoorthy was arrested and charged for sexual abuse on January 3rd, 2018. Reports said that he did it while his wife was sitting beside him.

The accused, Ramamoorthy lives in the United States on a temporary visa and was aboard a Spirit Airlines flight from Las Vegas to Detroit with his wife. The victim was seated beside him and had apparently fallen asleep on the flight. When she woke up, she saw that her pants and shirt was undone and the man’s hand was inside her pants.

The victim had reported the incident 40 minutes before the flight landed. There were counter claims from Ramamoorthy and his wife that the accused was in deep sleep and that the victim had fallen asleep on the man’s knees. However, Federal prosecutor Amanda Jawad was skeptical about the wife’s account as she thought she was covering up for her husband.

NPR reported that Ramamoorthy has now been convicted for sexual assault by a jury that took less than four hours to come to that conclusion. A special agent of the Detroit Division of the FBI, Timothy R. Slater said,

According to reports, Ramamoorthy reiterated that he was in deep sleep after taking a pill and used that as the reason for being unaware of his actions. But then he partially admitted to sexually assaulting the victim by undoing her bra and cupping her breasts over her clothes. Additionally, he admitted to putting his hands into her pants and trying to fondle her.

Ramamoorthy’s sentencing date is set for December 12th. And on that day, he might face life imprisonment or deportation after a comparatively lenient sentence. However, given the disgusting nature of the crime, the punishment should be harsh so that it can be a lesson for the accused and all those who have a similar attitude towards women.
