India & China Lead The Way In Making World Greener Since 2000, Reports NASA

With increasing global warming and melting glaciers, Earth is facing a huge climate crisis. But, simultaneously it is also getting greener and verdant. Though it sounds too contradictory and unreal to believe, considering the current environmental conditions, a recent study by NASA has proved it all.

The study based on extensive satellite imagery and published in the journal Nature Sustainability has made some surprising revelations. It states that the two countries with the world’s biggest population which are often called out for polluting the nature are also the biggest contributors in increasing the lush green foliage on the planet.

Thanks to its plantation and forest expansion programs, China accounts for 25% of share in greening the Earth since the last two decades. On the other hand, India’s agricultural vegetation has accounted for 6.8% share in making the world greener since 2000. In 2017, India broke its own world record for most trees planted by planting 66 million saplings in just 12 hours.

NASA has, however, stressed that the gain in greenness does not neutralize the negative impacts made by deforestation around the world. Rather it is just a positive sign in a dreadful environment of climate change that only seems to worsen day by day.

But if the countries around the world do their bit in favour of protecting the ecosystems just like India and China, this might help us to get rid of the environmental crisis, surely.
