Like many other parts of India, the city of dreams Mumbai has also seen incessant rains for the last couple of weeks. While the heavy rainfall has reduced temperatures, brought out colourful umbrellas and the usual chai and pakoras, it has also caused waterlogged streets and electricity issues in the financial capital.
But Mumbaikars have taken it all in their stride and are also braving the flooded roads and overcrowded modes of public transport. Their indomitable spirit has also given birth to many sassy monsoon memes.
In another instance of the humanitarian spirit of the city, filmmaker Imtiaz Ali shared the kindness and generosity of an auto-rickshaw driver who helped him recently.

The Love Aaj Kal director narrates the incident saying,
“Night walk in the rain! The auto-rickshaw came along and asked if I wanted a ride. I refused, he asked again – it was raining and I was without cover. I had checked my wallet, I smiled at him and said I had no money.”
But the absence of money did not deter the kind soul. Imtiaz further added,
“He looked at me and asked me to sit in, he would drop me without money. I asked him to carry on and get some other client and do his job. He said it was raining and I would get wet. He asked me to sit in, he would drop me. I sat and he drove. Soon a car stopped the rickshaw – it was a couple who wanted a selfie with me. The autorickshaw guy looked at me. He asked me if I was Imtiaz Ali. He said he would want a selfie with me. I told him I would want a selfie with him as well.”

We don’t know the name of the driver but we’d like to thank him all the same for restoring our faith in humanity and showing us that kindness costs nothing.
