The 38-year old constable ran for 2 km, from GPO Junction towards Koti, clearing traffic to make way for an ambulance. He also ran beyond the jurisdiction of his police station to ensure that the patient was taken to the hospital on time.

In recognition of his selfless act, the Hyderabad Police felicitated and honored constable G Babji with a memento on November 5, 2020.

Anil Kumar, who is the additional traffic commissioner of Hyderabad City Police, awarded him and said, “His dedication towards work is admirable and commendable. We have rewarded and appreciated his contribution to saving a precious life and bringing a good name to the Hyderabad Traffic Police.”

G Babji’s 7-year old daughter Sharanya also gave him a congratulatory note after he came back home at 11 PM post his 10 PM shift. She wrote the note by herself and stayed up till late at night just so that she could hug him.

Babji said, “I was glad to see my daughter, wife, and neighbors waiting to congratulate me after that video went viral. I was so glad to see the congratulatory note written by my daughter. When I took that letter from her it was so overwhelming and I can never forget this moment ever. My neighbors also hugged and congratulated me.”

He added, “Even though I am being honored and appreciated by everyone, one of the best rewards I got was when the patient’s wife who was in the ambulance called and informed me that her husband is completely safe now. I am really glad my help could save him. I have not told anyone about this incident except my wife and mother but someone in the ambulance took the video and shared it on social media. I am glad to receive so much appreciation from people across the country.”

We salute him for his wonderful gesture to help an unknown patient! There is nothing more beautiful to see than instances of humanity.
