Here Are Just 7 Simple Reasons Why Dhoni Is The Most Humble Man On And Off The Field!

The world knows him as ‘Captain Cool’ and fans call him Mahi.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one of those living legends that tell a story that no book can ever tell. His struggles, achievements and his splendid run as the Indian Cricket Team’s captain – are all testimony to the fact that he is one of the greatest sportsmen, the Universe has ever seen.

Hailing from a humble middle class family from Ranchi, Jharkhand to bringing his country, great joy and pride- M.S. Dhoni has come a really long way. While it is easy for some to forget their humble beginnings, Dhoni is someone who cherishes them and loves going back to them.

MS Dhoni is the master of all trades and considering the rage cricket is in our country – it’s doesn’t take a genius to figure out why fans love him. But the reason people worship Dhoni as an idol is because there is perhaps no one as humble as him. And I am not just saying this is a devoted fan, I come bearing examples to prove it to you.

1. The time Dhoni took his chaiwala friend, Thomas for a lavish dinner!

Playing for Jharkhand in the Vijay Hazare trophy, MS Dhoni was in Kolkata in March this year. While he was celebrating the success of his win with his teammates in the dressing room, Dhoni spotted a familiar face.

In no time, Dhoni realised that it was Thomas, the tea-seller. When Mahi was a TTE in Kharagpur, he used to go to his stall and have 2-3 cups of tea everyday. Dhoni received Thomas with love and took him back to his hotel room. He treated him with a lavish dinner.

Thomas now has named his stall, ‘Dhoni Tea Stall’!

2. Ditching the comfort of a luxurious flight, Dhoni decided to travel with his teammates in the train.

Soon after he resigned as the captain of the Indian Cricket Team, Dhoni took the time to lead the Jharkhand State Cricket team for the Vijay Hazare trophy, this year.

Dhoni who loves to traverse long distances in his hummer, ditched the comfort and travelled with his team – like a true leader.

3. Appreciating and acknowledging the love of his admirers.

While we know of celebrities, who turn a blind eye towards their fans – Dhoni is nowhere even close to that.

Remember the time, he acknowledged a fan who chased his hummer in Ranchi all the way to the airport just for one selfie? She yelled Dhoni’s name and as soon as he saw her, he let her in and gave her an autograph and granted her wish.

Isn’t that super sweet!

4. The tragic story of Dhoni and his childhood friend Santosh Lal.

Everyone knows about Dhoni’s incredible helicopter shot, but it wasn’t Dhoni who invented it. It was his childhood friend Santosh Lal. Santosh was a fearless cricketer and he used to travel with Dhoni to matches and play with him a lot. They worked together in the Indian Railways too.

Depsite his fame, Dhoni never lost his friendship and love for Santosh. He was suffering from pancreatitis and Dhoni called him to Delhi and arranged for his treatment. Unfortunately in July 2013, Dhoni lost him.

But it was Santosh and his fearlessness that made Dhoni an impeccable cricketer and Mahi has always cherished his dear friend and the things he taught him.

5. When Faf Du Plessis had cramps from hitting the ball, Dhoni left everything and helped him stretch.

While playing a crucial match against India, South African player, Faf Du Plessis was on his attacking best. He hit a six with such force that he wobbled and fell down due to cramps.

Dhoni removed his gloves (which he generally does to hit the ball through the stumps) and helped him stretch. He tried to make sure that his pain would go away, till the paramedics came in.

6. Dhoni recalled Ian Bell after he was declared run-out by the umpire.

After brilliant innings of 137, England’s Ian Bell was declared run-out by the umpire which happened to be a wrong decision. The umpire was ‘booed’ and the crowd was unhappy.

It was India vs England test series played between 29 July to 2 August, 2011 at the Trent Bridge Stadium, Nottingham, England.

Seeing that the play was unfair, Indian skipper decided to call Ian back and gave him a chance of fair play.

7. His encounter with India’s former wicket-keeper, Farokh Engineer.

Former Indian wicket keeper-batsman, Farokh Engineer who has played for the country in 1959 to 1975, spoke about Dhoni and this is what he said –

“When Dhoni introduced his wife to me, he told her ‘This is Farokh Engineer. If he was still playing cricket, I would still be stamping tickets at the Ranchi railway station.’ Dhoni is such a humble man.”

And that’s said enough. The way Mahi talks, the respect with which he treats his seniors and juniors says much more about him than my words ever could.

There are a million more instances I can cite but this right here, is my best pitch.

Isn’t he the man, who deserves all your love. Dhoni is an explosive man, on the field and of it! We love you Captain Cool.
