A messy break-up renders a couple to erase their memories of each other. Jim Carrey, heartbroken because his girlfriend (Kate Winslet) removes all memory of him, does the same. And slowly realizes that memories are not meant to be conveniently erased and all he really wants is her.

A troubled man, an emotionally unstable woman, try to find their silver lining in each other without even realizing so.

 

4. The Perks of Being a Wallflower

An introvert meets two weird but interesting kids and finds himself sucked into a life he didn’t want but enjoyed a lot. Every character has a heart rendering story of its own and an observant eye of the protagonist.

 

5. Garden State

A man loses his mother but gains a lifetime when he comes back home for her funeral. It’s a tale that breaks your heart and tells you how to mend it yourself.

 

6. Kramer vs. Kramer

It has been made out in a Bollywood version as well, but sadly this movie seems to be much better than that. A kid stuck into a crumbling marriage who doesn’t want them to separate and doesn’t understand why either.

 

7. P.S. I Love You

Touted as the most romantic movie, it indeed is the most romantic movie. A dead husband helps his dearly beloved wife to get back towards living her life from practically his grave in the form of letters. How romantic can anything get?

 

8. Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump’s constant journey towards the woman who inspired to abandon his disability and finding himself in the process of finding his endless love is just beautiful.

 

9. Edward Scissorhands

Edward has scissors for hands and he’s seen as a weirdo trying really hard to be normal. and inevitably love blossoms but it was never meant to be. Tim Burton is a magician when it comes to making people cry uncontrollably.

The unusual love story of an old couple who live together, struggle together with Alzheimer’s and die together breaks your heart in a million pieces but by the end, you realize it’s much stronger than it was before.

It’s a story of a two long lost friends meeting each other in unsettling circumstances and this is probably the only serious movie of Adam Sandler belting out a beautiful and powerful performance of a heartbroken man.

A man’s struggle to keep his family together and happy is tear jerking at best and makes you reflect on what life does mean exactly.

 

13. The Pianist

The story of a Jewish artist stuck in a Nazi invaded Poland, rips your heart out completely. Its music score is hauntingly beautiful.

 

14. Shawshank Redemption

Based on the novel by Stephen King of the same name, makes us question all the things we hold dear – morality, friendship, and freedom.

 

15. Schindler’s List

A German industrialist’s successful mission of freeing thousands of Jews from the clutch of the Nazis gives you a real insight of the plight of people of Germany in Hitler’s Reich.  The most impacting scene in the fully black and white movie is the scene that shows a lone little girl wearing a red jacket roaming in the streets full of violent attacks on Jews.
