Afghan Comedian’s Parody “Habibi, Do You Love Me” Gets Slammed For Being Sexist

If you are a social media buff, you must be aware of the Kiki challenge which got the world dancing to rapper Drake’s song. And even if you are not, I am sure it has managed to reach you in some way or the other, considering it’s extreme popularity over the past one month. Also known as the In My Feelings challenge, the stunt asks people to jump out of their moving cars and groove to the song “Kiki, do you love me?”.

Needless to say, we have seen umpteen videos of people taking up the challenge, performing it, and even getting hurt in the process. While some of them were nailed to perfection, there were hilarious ones too which got us laughing our ass off.

And in the latest rip-off of the challenge, we have an Afghan comedian presenting his version of it.

Afghan comedian, Dawood Savage, has just released his own rendition of the song ‘Habibi, do you love me?’. Dawood loves to call himself “Muslim Drake” and his song sees four men dressed in traditional attires seek to marry Aisha, Fatima, and Khadija. In the parody, he hopes to find a woman who is “acceptable”, “can cook” and “recite the Quran.”

However, the comedian’s adaptation has been facing a lot of flak for his portrayal of women as someone who is best suited inside the four walls of a house. The song has been slammed as a ‘male chauvinist song’ while Dawood is being blasted for sexism and his misinterpretation of Islam.

While Dawood has done a pretty good job with his rhythm and singing, the satire he tried to pull is definitely misplaced. What are your thoughts?
