Physics Legend H.C. Verma Has Retired And Everyone Is Thanking Him For Being An Inspiration

If you are/were a science student, I can bet my money that you are aware of the name H. C. Verma and that you still swear by the book ‘Concepts of Physics’ (aka the bible of physics). I say this with all the conviction I can find in my body because I was one too! And like other innumerable lost souls, H. C. Verma (and his theories) helped me get through all those dreary numericals.

For those of you who do not know the mastermind (can’t tell you how much you’ve missed), Harish Chandra Verma is an Indian experimental physicist whose field of research is nuclear physics.

But it was his gut instinct as a teacher that told him things, that the problem lies in connecting students with the textbook (considering the language and cultural difference).

However, apart from having authored so many books, Dr Verma (he received a PhD degree in less than three years) was also a professor at the esteemed Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur up until yesterday!

 

That’s right. In a short but powerful FB post, H. C. Verma revealed that he has hung his boots as a professor at IITK after over three successful decades of teaching.

“Finally locked my IITK lab and submitted the keys to Office. End of 38 years of formal teaching and research.”

It goes without a mention that students, from across the country, are disheartened that their favourite physicist is retiring from the field! These comments are proof!

Needless to say, my head bows down in respect! Thank you for being our guiding light, sir! Legends may retire. But their legacy still continues.
