Grandparents are the coolest members of any family. They prove that age is just a number by skydiving from 14,000 feet, tirelessly working to fulfill their dreams and being our pillar of strength. Their struggles, their successes and failures, and their experiences make them wise. All we have to do to learn from them is to spend time with them and let them regale us with their life stories.
According to The Independent, Twitter user @Irish_Atheist recently asked everyone to share the coolest achievements of their ancestors and Twitter happily (read: proudly) obliged.

My grandmom was a farm labourer… She had nine kids… Midwife to the village, she delivered all her babies, herself and had no patience with what she called "fussing with doctors like preganancy is some disease." pic.twitter.com/TC5ubb2opw

My grandmother, a 15 yr old daughter of a dalit farm labourer, rebelled against an entire village, faced stone pelting and worse for her education. She demanded that my grandfather hold up their wedding until she was done (which took 10 yrs) & made an entire generation of doctors https://t.co/u85HEHqO7W

On her way to pick up my brother from school, my mom ran into a burning home and rescued an elderly couple from the roof collapsing over their heads. She did this while pregnant, with her other 3 kids waiting for her in the car. Her name is Emily Ficklin Crofts. https://t.co/PJLRMd2jPG

My great grandma was the first female cab driver in Munich, on her driving test certificate, someone had to manually blot out the masculine grammatical endings and insert female ones because so few women were driving at the time, never mind driving taxis 🏋️♀️🚖 pic.twitter.com/xX5I4m3sjs

My (very Irish) single, bartender great-grandmother would let battered women stay at her place to get away from their husbands. She was 6’2, so if they came around to cause trouble she’d wail on them

Whenever life gives us lemons and we’re in need of mentorship or guidance, we don’t have to look too far. Our grandparents are the best role models and friends we could ever hope for. From being a part of our wedding, our wacky YouTube videos, and our travel adventures, we can always count on them to have our backs, don’t you agree?
