Excuses and I have a beautiful love story. We keep each other company ALL the time. “I’m too old for this, I’m afraid or I can’t do it by myself”. Another one of my lovers is procrastination. “I will do it someday, one day”. This morning though, both of them left me. Because they saw this. This braveheart who became the world’s oldest skydiver at 102!
102-year-old Irene O’Shea lives in Australia. She lost her daughter Shelagh to Motor Neurone Disease 10 years ago. So, she decided to raise money to help find a cure for this disease. She jumped off 14,000 feet at Langhorne Creek with SA Skydiving and now proudly holds the world record for being the oldest skydiver.
Watch her take the leap.
Incredible right? Would you guys believe me if I told you this isn’t her first skydive? In 2016, she skydived for the first time to commemorate her 100th birthday! She did it again the next year and now is her third jump. Till date, she has successfully raised ~$12,000 to fight the disease and hopes to increase the number in the future. This is what she felt about her landmark feat:
“It was very clear up there and the weather was good but it was very cold up there… Possibly I will jump next year and if I live long enough I’ll jump at 105.”
I think she’ll definitely skydive until she’s 105. No doubt about it. Seeing as how she is able to drive herself and doesn’t even need reading glasses. And it’s not just me, Twitter thinks so too.

If any of you would like to donate to her cause, you can. Her gofundme page is live. All the money goes to Motor Neurone Disease Association of South Australia.
