Noida’s 21 Metro Stations Will Provide Free Sanitary Pads For Women From March 8

MENSTRUATION– a word that is frowned upon by many. Even though periods are a biological phenomenon that women undergo every month, it is still considered a taboo around the globe. And, while it might take some time to change this outdated mindset, there are a few positive incidents that give us hope.

Like, recently, the Noida-Greater Noida Metro came up with a great initiative to encourage menstrual hygiene. They have decided to provide sanitary pads free of cost all across their 21 metro stations, reports News18.

Apart from that, the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC), which manages and operates the Aqua Line, will also designate two “pink stations” at Sector 76 in Noida and Pari Chowk in Greater Noida.

“Besides the cosmetic changes, these pink stations will have facilities like baby-feeding room, diaper-changing facilities, and a vanity-cum-changing room,” an NMRC official was quoted saying by the New Indian Express.

Except for the security personnel, a job outsourced to a private firm, the NMRC is aiming to have an all-women staff for the “pink stations”. The Metro operator will install vending machines for the free pads.

“Any commuter will have to get a token at the Metro station which could be used at the vending machine to get a sanitary pad absolutely free of cost,” the official was quoted saying.

NMRC Managing Director Ritu Maheshwari is expected to inaugurate the pink stations and the vending machine service on Women’s Day. This is a great initiative by NMRC and we hope other cities follow them soon.
