Female Athletes Told To Masturbate Before Practice In A Note Posted Inside Bengaluru Stadium

Sree Kanteerava stadium, home of the 2015-16 I-league champions ‘Bengaluru FC’ is one of the major stadiums of India. The stadium has even received the honour of hosting matches of the Fifa U-17 World Cup in 2017, but a recent shocking news has tainted the image of the arena.

The female athletes who practice in the stadium were in for a shock on Monday when they read a note posted in the restroom that asked them to masturbate before practising.

The note, pasted on four places inside the ladies’ restroom had an obscene message written on it and was duly signed by the ‘Sports authority’. Junior athletes saw the note first and told their seniors about it.

 

A senior athlete who had been training at the stadium for a decade said,

“It is so disturbing and humiliating that somebody could enter the ladies’ restroom and spend time pasting those messages without being noticed.”

The incident has shocked the female athletes and they are now scared to use the washroom.

 

Another national athlete is afraid of the possibility of spy cameras in the washroom. She also asked the authorities to take appropriate steps on the alarming matter. 

“There were no such messages in the men’s restrooms which means the female athletes are being targeted. This amounts to sexual harassment, and I hope the authorities take it seriously.”

The Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES) had recently introduced identity cards for athletes and coaches to put a check on eve-teasing and thefts. After the incident, they have now promised to enhance security around the stadium. 

Incidents like these show how much the authorities really care about encouraging sportspersons and caring for their well-being in our country. Let’s hope they catch the culprit and ensure the safety and security of the athletes inside the stadium.
