Ekta Kapoor has for better or for worse been at the forefront of Indian television for close to two decades now. The industry has seen a ginormous growth under her influence. While her shows are a fan favourite among Indian moms, it is also hilariously notorious for its extreme dramatics. Not to mention the painfully long period that the shows usually run for and the never-ending reincarnations of dead characters.
While we Indians have become more or less accustomed to these antics, for the uninitiated, it is just bad production and unintentionally hilarious. Which is exactly what Swedish YouTuber ‘PewDiePie’ found it to be.
The YouTuber made a video documenting his reactions of watching Indian TV shows for the first time.
He tweeted about the same, mocking the “great quality” and his Indian fans basically cringed with embarrassment (Read: Desi Twitter cringes as world’s biggest YouTuber watches Ekta Kapoor’s Daily soap).
News of all of this happening reached Ekta Kapoor and let’s just say she didn’t find much humour in it.
She went on the offensive and compared him to a firang junior artist:

Ekta’s strong-worded response was not taken lightly by Pewd’s die-hard Indian fans and they started hitting her with comparisons of his net worth and work quality.

In addition to being compared to the YouTuber, Ekta was even called racist by a few. Not one to hold back from a fight, she retorted at all of them today in a tweeting spree.

The producer claims that the intentions of the YouTuber were not just satirical and were, in fact, malicious towards all Indians in general.
And irreverence that he adopted to pan everything in India’s popular culture ! So all those getting highly protective about his power n millions ( some even claimed wat I was ‘ worth’) remember his video which we pass as sarcastic n ‘ humourous’ was titled ‘ india u lose’

She ended her Twitter spree brushing off all the hate she was facing and with the promise to create more content for PewDiePie to react to.

PewDiePie is undisputedly one of the biggest names among YouTubers today. And his videos are famous for their no-punches-barred humour. But this time he seems to have barked up the wrong tree. Now, while I do admire Ekta’s guts to stand up to such hate and not let it affect her in any way, to be very honest her promise to create more such content does kind of scare me. Uh… we’ll have to wait and see where this goes I guess.
