Don’t drink and drive. You must’ve come across this awareness campaign quite often. But in our humble opinions, people should do nothing stupid after drinking, be it driving or stepping out or trying their hands at being daredevils they think themselves to be in the inebriated states. Because one mistake can cost someone’s life. In this case, two lives.

Two extremely drunk men — Imran Gardi (26) and Pratap Rathod (21) — fell to their deaths from 2000-feet in the valley at Saad Point in Amboli Ghat, on July 31.

Men fall

A group of seven youngsters from Kolhapur had come for a picnic at the Kavlesad Point. The two were visibly drunk and were caught drinking on camera too. Plus, they were engaging in extreme tomfoolery.

The surprising bit is that the whole incident was recorded and shot from the bridge in Kavlesad-Amboli, Sawantwadi taluka. But, none of them tried to help any of them or stop them from engaging in such foolishness.

An officer from Sawantwadi police station told Mid-Day,

Two-men

“In the video, one youth is seen holding an alcohol bottle and the two talking to each other. After a while, one swims in the pond nearby and comes out to join the other sitting on the railing. There are others present as the whole thing is unfolding. However, they are at a distance, and none of them tries to stop the two from climbing over.

The search operation for bodies is on and the police will also question the one who shot the video.

“We will also question the person who shot this video; he could have easily saved them.”

The video is going viral, and the two can be seen crossing over the safety railing several times and showing reckless behaviour.

This is so saddening. The two could’ve been stopped and the mishap could’ve been avoided if instead of making a video out of it, someone would’ve actually gone and pulled them away from the edge or at least done something.

Wake up people! Humanity is dying a slow death. Instead of extending a helping hand in public incidents, people are choosing to record videos. This is such a sad sight.
