Creating Safety: Women Share What Lies They’ve Told Men So They Would Leave Them Alone

Sometimes, women feel they have to lie to men to get them to leave them alone. For example, when a man won’t stop talking to them at a bar, a woman might say she is engaged, married, has a boyfriend, or even that she is gay. These lies are often told because many men do not seem to accept a simple “no” as an answer and keep pushing.

Women also lie for their own safety. Rejecting a man directly can sometimes lead to anger or even violence. By pretending to be unavailable in some way, women hope to avoid a potentially dangerous situation. These lies are a way for women to protect themselves while trying to end unwanted attention peacefully.

We wish for a world where women wouldn’t need to lie to make men leave them alone. In this ideal world, men would respect a woman’s “no” without needing further explanations or excuses. Women would feel safe and comfortable expressing their true feelings without fear of anger or retaliation. Creating such a world requires everyone to understand and respect personal boundaries and consent.
