As a part of the plan to combat terrorism, India has seen many changes and upgrades, the most recent one being the installation of “laser walls” along the Indo-Pak border.
The walls have been installed along the India-Pakistan International Border in Punjab to curb terrorism and to keep a vigil against intruders.
8 infra-red and laser beam intrusion detection systems are functional for now as as many sensitive and vulnerable positions as possible.
The laser walls will be guarded and monitored by the Border Security Force (BSF) in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.
BSF had decided to install the laser walls 2 years ago to protect the International Borders as the lands around it are have unreliable and marshy topography.
The initiative was set into action post the Pathankot attacks as the terrorists were suspected to have crossed the borders at the International Border from Bamiyal area in Punjab.
A senior BSF official was quoted as saying, “The laser walls have started working and their functioning is being monitored. Preliminary results in detecting illegal movements are encouraging.” He also added that the sensors were being monitored through a satellite-based signal command system and were equipped with night and fog operability tools.
Apart from these, 4 other projects of similar kinds will be installed in 30-40 km stretches of International Border in Jammu and Gujarat and one in West Bengal along Indo-Bangla border.
These will definitely act as a firm step in the protection of the nation against terrorism.
