In India, the wedding industry thrives on a blend of tradition, extravagance, and societal pressure. Crafted meticulously, it entices families to splurge lakhs and crores on fleeting festivities. The “big fat Indian wedding” has become a cultural norm, glorified through media and social circles. It is a lot of unnecessary expenditure if you think about it. Hence, a lot of couples are choosing to go for court marriages than a traditional one.
A woman named Akshim Rana, who hails from Himachal Pradesh, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share pictures from her court wedding ceremony from a year ago. It was attended by their family members and close relatives. She went on to share how people keep telling them how they’ve saved a lot of money. If only people showed the same kind of love and acceptance towards court marriages!
Got married in a very simple court ceremony last year in presence of our family members and close relatives. A year it is already !
And all I hear is kitne paise bacha liye from people !
Show some love & acceptance towards court marriages too ✨ pic.twitter.com/3BTO5KUrmZ

Responding to the post, several people advocated for court marriages. It is way cheaper, intimate, and not all weddings need to be grand. Isn’t it a more meaningful celebration that prioritizes love and togetherness over materialistic displays of wealth?
I am anti marriage, but if it happens it should be done like this. After all it's a contract between two people in the eyes of construction.
So nothing will increase or decrease its value even if you spend many days & waste crazy money on that. https://t.co/FJD18jfNqt— Tanik Nritya ho jaye….. (@AakaashWaani) March 14, 2024
This is the best investment. Y'all crazy to be spending lakhs on something you'll never recover https://t.co/8EhBiAq3YE

Most Youths prefer small weddings with the closest family and friends. But Indian parents want their kid's wedding to be so grand. https://t.co/Pst0PBwrpw

Best cheez hai
Court marriage karo
Aaram se koi bt ni shanti poorak nikal jata
Aise lavish wedding dusron ko dikhane ke liye bahut ajeeb hota https://t.co/mYLszYiJm0— chick🐥magnet(repeller)6969 (@okaberintaroste) March 13, 2024
Court marriage or a big celebration – what would you choose?
