Deepika Padukone Trolled On Instagram For Being Too Skinny. When Will Such Body-Shaming Stop?

Deepika-Padukone

Deepika Padukone is an international star and people are basically floored by her talent and beauty. Over her decade-long career in Bollywood, DP or Queen DP (as she’s called) has delivered hits after hits and even has swept an international blockbuster under her kitty. But instead of her achievements and accolades, there still would be talkers who would either spew cusses at her or call her names or even question her eating habits. Sad as it may sound, the shaming is real.

Recently, Deepika uploaded a picture on Instagram, which happens to be from Vanity Fair UK’s August 2017 shoot. DP is gracing the cover like a diva and is making those statement jewels stand out.

While her shoot was sexy, sultry and chic, haters shamed her for being too skinny.

Some took things too far, as well.

Sadly, body-shaming has become such a common occurrence on social media. People have become so judgemental and leave no chance to shame someone’s body. But, why? Why have we become so body negative? Who are we to judge someone’s body size, skin colour or body type?

Just like even our fingers are not of the same size, people are not too. Why can’t we see them through the same veil? Why are just certain body types acceptable by the society and not all? It’s high time we all become body positive people.

Take this bodybuilder’s story for example. Jolene Nicole Jones was a body-conscious person but now is in complete love with her curves. How did she do that? By total acceptance.

“Body builder to body lover. This isn’t your typical transformation photo. I went from being controlled by my grueling gym regimen and weighing chicken and having protein shakes in my purse to fully enjoying a social life. Some people might say this is “letting yourself go” but you can’t put a price on happiness. I call this finding myself and realizing I can have more than one passion in life, whether it’s hiking up in Glacier Park or enjoying beers with friends. A six pack didn’t make me happy. I was never enough and always needing to improve. Today I went rafting with friends and enjoyed food the old me would have drooled over and wouldn’t have dared touch. Your body is quite LITERALLY the only thing that gets you through this life, your worth and joy isn’t weighed by what you can lift or what the scale says. My worth is weighed by those I surround myself with and the smile on my face.”

And, like her, there are millions who are in love with themselves, their bodies, their skin colour, their features and their natures. We simply have to accept everyone, just the way they are.

Our society puts too much pressure on conforming to certain standards, laid by we-don’t-really-know-who and people are expected to abide by it blindly, no questions asked. Instead, why not ask the right questions and start thinking (even if a little) about someone’s perspective too. It is their body, their choice. And, while you are judging someone for being too skinny or too fat, you never know what that person is going through. Maybe, they have a clinical disorder, or maybe they are going through something in life or maybe they are simply proud of the way they look. So, no judgements there, people!
