“Dangal Would Have Been A Hit Even With Hrithik Instead Of Aamir,” Says Vidhu Vinod Chopra

A real-life story of two wrestler sisters and their determined father who fought against the prejudices of society to bring glory to their nation, ‘Dangal’ had superhit written all over it from the day it graced the silver screens all over the globe. The movie not just earned critical acclaim, but also became the highest grossing Bollywood film of all time.

Aamir Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra also earned heaps of praises for their stellar performances in the movie.

However, renowned director Vidhu Vinod Chopra feels that ‘Dangal’ would have been a success even if Aamir Khan didn’t star in it. Speaking to the media at the ‘Dangal’ success bash, he said,

“AAMIR KHAN IS NOT KING, THE STORY IS THE KING. IF DANGAL FEATURED HRITHIK ROSHAN INSTEAD OF AAMIR, THE FILM WOULD HAVE STILL BECOME A HIT. “

The director, who has worked alongside Aamir in well-acclaimed like ‘PK’ and ‘3 Idiots’, clarified that the story was much bigger than the person portraying the character in the movie.

“THE ARTIST HAS A BIG ROLE TO PLAY. THIS DOES NOT MAKE AAMIR SMALL, BUT I AM SAYING, THE STORY IS BIGGER.”
