After The Smashing Success Of ‘Dangal’ This Is How Much Mahavir Singh Phogat Earned!

The year 2016 proved great for both cinema makers and goers, with back-to-back box office hits! Not just massy entertainers but the year gave us and the movie-buffs brilliant work of art including films like ‘Udta Punjab’, ‘Neerja’ and ‘Pink’. However, amidst all the power-packed cinema, Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ took the trophy home. Literally!

It was a sweeping success according to the trade analysts. If you brush your memory, ‘Dangal’ was also the fastest to enter the 100 crore club. No buck stopped at that, the film, later went ahead and a did business worth over Rs 300 crore within 17 days of its release. While the reel-life Phogat family rose to unmatched wealth, the real-life Phogat family hardly made a fraction of it!

According to a report in Hindustan Times, Mahavir Singh Phogat, wrestler/coach, on whose life the movie is based, received a meagre amount of Rs 80 lakhs only.

 Though the sum is nothing in comparison to the money, the film minted, relatives of the Phogat family said that he is satisfied with whatever he has got.

The Phogat family, in fact, has invested part of the amount in getting high-yielding buffaloes for the Phogat sisters who are all wrestlers. 

Since the wrestlers are vegetarian, milk products constitute an integral part of their daily diet. However, Mahavir’s dream of setting up an academy in his village Balali in Haryana is on the table too. “We will talk to the government in this regard, let’s see how things work out,” he said.

Nothing shows modesty more than this. And if not anything, it only goes to prove that money doesn’t mean everything!
