It was during my college days when I was introduced to the ‘cooking in a coffee pot’ technique. From Maggi to tea and sometimes instant soup, we sure cooked a lot of ready-to-eat food in it. But never did I ever think of cooking the main course in it, especially a chicken dish.
Hence, when we came across a man’s post about how he used the coffee machine to cook chicken with butter and garlic, we were blown away.
Taking to LinkedIn, a person named Alex Cohen shared how he saved money by cooking a cheaper meal in a hotel room. Even though his company would pay for his meals since he was traveling for business, he decided to do so because according to him ‘it’s the little things that get you promoted.’
After his post blew up on the site, he shared the screengrab of his post on Twitter. This is what he wrote:

Apparently, he’s not alone. People online also shared stories of how they used hotel equipment to cook food.
Why are you cooking in the underwear washer? https://t.co/gQiQo9AEus

I went through this too. I was traveling for work and decided to have a barbecue on the iron to save money for the company I work for. pic.twitter.com/fYwxASwuwR

Want to save energy cooking? Buy a flask to cook rice or pasta, no simmering required. Both take around 30 minutes. pic.twitter.com/DMlvJ4yHVq

✍️True Story – Happened with me:
I was on a work trip once and got hungry at midnight after working 6 hours.
I wanted to save some money for the company I worked for.
So made fried eggs in my hotel room using my company laptop. pic.twitter.com/HEZJqRCNgZ

Others had this to say about this cheapskate jugaad to save money.
The peak of selfishness. Causing other people salmonella. People actually use those for coffee and tea. Why is it that hard to just order food from room service or outside.
— Anniina (@AntilaAnniina) September 1, 2022
Funny. Until the next person dies from salmonella vomiting because the carafe was never cleaned well enough given no one would suspect someone putting raw chicken in it. Now you get fired for contaminating others.

You have to clean it with the body wash gel they put in the shower.

Yeah – and therefore ruined the coffee machine COMPLETELY for other guests!
Why should the hotel have to suffer because you want brownie points with your boss?🤬
— punam mohandas (@PunamMohandas) September 1, 2022
I can tell why it’s popular. It’s outrageous.
You paint “did it because I could (but forgot to consider if I should)” as “being virtuous”.
I don’t know how much you earn, but I can bet the time you spent cooking&cleaning times your hourly rate is > than what you saved

Stunned people think this will give them salmonella. The chicken got cooked folks! So what, your coffee will be a little garlicy and little people pay extra for that.

And to think I’ve drank coffee from hotel coffee makers. I don’t think any half way decent company’s morals puts a few hundred dollars above you giving others salmonella. I’d like to think this is a joke, but then again you have an actual chicken in that coffee maker… not cool

I swear I thought that was a joke until I saw the comments praising his “selfless” actions! Such a twisted age we’re living in

He’s not saving money if he’s paying for the ruined coffee machine, and he should be

This is funny and gross at the same time. Hope he left it squeaky clean, odourless, and in working condition.
