Umpire Changes Mind Midway While Giving Batsman Out; Scratches Nose Instead

Cricket. It’s not just a game, it’s an emotion. While players are under a lot of pressure to give their best performances, the Umpire also plays a crucial role in deciding the fate of the match. In the past, there have been several instances where players disagreed with the umpires call, like when MS Dhoni flared up over a no-ball decision or when Virat Kohli had a DRS moment with the umpire.

Recently, confusion reigned during the Melbourne Renegades-Adelaide Strikers
Big Bash League (BBL) match as the umpire gave an unclear decision. Strikers spinner Rashid Khan thought he got batsman Beau Webster when he hit him on the pads and umpire Greg Davidson began to raise his finger.

However, while giving his decision Davidson realized there was some bat involved, so he changed his mind and used the arm already in motion to scratch his nose instead, reports Times of India.

Watch the funny video here:

Davidson, who was initially giving out the appeal in favor of the fielding side, changed his mind at the last moment. His nose scratching decision caused a frenzy at the Marvel Stadium.

Strikers opener Phil Salt called his action a simple human error. “I saw his hand start to go up and I didn’t see the initial sort of mustache scratch,” Salt said. “When that came up on the big screen, I just cracked up [laughing]. It happens, doesn’t it? He’s only human … you can’t get all of them right.”

Later, Davidson was quoted by the Guardian saying, “It was one of those things, heat of the moment. I started to think and then got a second noise through my head, so I decided to change the decision halfway through and gave it not out.”

Webster scored 36 runs and was not out. However, Strikers beat the Renegades and won the match. What do you think about this tiny ‘itch’ in the match? Let us know in the comments below.
