Chef Asks People To Not Take Helpers To Restaurants If They Can’t Treat Them Respectfully

How many times we have seen young parents take their kid’s nanny out to a public place along with them and have them sit separately, eat separate food, and separate their space from them via an invisible boundary? Too many times. Many people are disrespectful of their house helps. From offering them tea in a separate cup to asking them to sit on the floor whilst the family sits on chairs is very common. Sadly, many people turn a blind eye.

However, Harssh Kedia, who is a chef by profession and has been featured in reputed publications like Forbes and Hindustan Times, took to Instagram to share an important message. He urged people to not take their house helps to public places like restaurants, airports, cafes, etc. if they can’t treat them with respect.

“Please stop bringing your help to restaurants, cafes, airports, railway stations, if you can’t have them sit with you, if you’re not going to offer them the same food you eat at the table, if you can’t be courteous. The same help takes care of you, your kids, and your sh*t, bears the brunt of everything you do,” he wrote.

He further revealed that he was at the airport when he saw a family eating at a food joint while the help kept standing.

“I’m at an airport where a nanny/help stands while her ‘family’ sits and eats. They don’t offer her any food or even a chair to sit on. It’s a shame! I did get up and give her my chair, hoping the family would acknowledge and understand how they are really wrong, but they turned away and continued to eat their expensive airport food.”

Several people online were in agreement. Some even suggested not keeping separate utensils for them and that everyone should be treated equally irrespective of what their profession is.

How are people okay with treating those who take care of them disrespectfully? We, as a society, need to do better. Way better.
